Cara Wilson’s fitness journey took a major turn five weeks after having her first child through an unplanned cesarean section.
"The 2024 Holiday Shred Challenge was my motivation to jump in," Cara says. "I had exactly five weeks left on maternity leave, so the timing was perfect."
Despite still recovering from major abdominal surgery, Cara was determined to get back into shape and feel like herself again. She started the challenge weighing 197.8 lbs and lost 12.5 lbs in just five weeks, reaching 185.3 lbs. "I did a calorie deficit without counting calories," she says, "and felt confident I was on track because of my prior experience with gestational diabetes."
The results, both physical and mental, were enough to keep her motivated.
One of the most significant changes for Cara was learning how to track her protein intake.
"For the New Year’s Challenge, my goal was to hit 1,200 calories a day with a minimum of 150 grams of protein daily," she says. "This was the first time I ever tracked protein, and it was eye-opening."
She credits the JYM Army community for teaching her valuable lessons about nutrition and helping her establish a sustainable way of eating. "I've learned so much about nutrition," Cara says. "It’s been a game changer for me."
She also used JYM supplements like Stim-Free Pre JYM , Post JYM , and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pro JYM , which helped her curb cravings and even find new ways to enjoy her meals.
For Cara, the support of the JYM Army was crucial to staying on track.
"Being part of the JYM Army group keeps me on track," she says. "I love the friendly competition and seeing everyone’s transformations."
Her journey wasn’t without its obstacles, but her consistency and the support from her husband and family made a big difference.
"Having a supportive husband who takes care of the baby while I work out in our garage home gym makes all the difference," she says. "I get to focus on my workouts, and I love that personal space to blast music and just enjoy the process."
Now doing the Muscle Mayhem workout program, Cara is shifting her focus toward muscle gain.
"I’m gaining and losing weight with a purpose now," she says. "Instead of cutting just to see the scale drop, I’m building muscle and feeling stronger. I’ll be ready to start shredding when Jim's SS8 Challenge begins."
Cara's advice to others looking to transform their bodies? "Be consistent, stay on track, and enjoy the process. We’re all learning and growing together in the JYM Army."
