How Fatherhood Inspired Mason Upton to Lose Nearly 50 Pounds

After becoming a father, he realized he needed to change more than his physique. Nine months of consistent nutrition and training helped him transform both his body and his mindset.
The arrival of Mason Upton’s son in early 2025 changed everything.
Like many new parents, he found himself caught in the whirlwind of sleepless nights, shifting priorities, and putting his own needs on the back burner. Exercise disappeared, nutrition slipped. Before long, his weight climbed past 230 pounds.
Then he looked at the bigger picture.
“I didn’t want my son growing up seeing an undisciplined, unhealthy version of me,” Mason says. “I wanted to become a role model who lived with consistency, discipline, and healthy habits.”
That realization became the catalyst for a complete transformation.
Over the next nine months, Mason committed to rebuilding his lifestyle from the ground up. Rather than chasing quick fixes, he focused on improving his daily nutrition, tracking his macros, and staying consistent in the gym.
A single discovery stood out above all the others: “One of the biggest lessons I learned was realizing how little protein I had been eating before,” he says.
“I wanted to become a role model [for my son] who lived with consistency, discipline, and healthy habits.”
Once he corrected that deficiency and paired it with structured training, the results accelerated. By the beginning of 2026, he weighed under 200 pounds for the first time in more than 10 years. Then he entered the JimStoppani.com New Year’s Challenge and kept the momentum rolling, eventually reaching 181 pounds.
Mason credits much of his success to sticking with proven programming instead of bouncing from workout to workout.
His journey began with the Superman Remastered workout program before progressing to Project X and Shortcut to Size , combining traditional resistance training with low-intensity cardio. Back training quickly became his favorite part of the week, but his overall approach remained balanced and consistent.
“Trust the process, follow the plans as written, and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.”
In the kitchen, he prioritized whole foods and high-protein meals while minimizing heavily processed options. To support his efforts, he regularly used Pre JYM Plus , Pro JYM , and JYM Creatine+ , helping fuel workouts, recovery, and muscle retention throughout his fat-loss journey.
Looking back, Mason believes the physical transformation was only possible because he embraced discipline over convenience.
His advice to anyone starting a JimStoppani.com program is straightforward: “Trust the process, follow the plans as written, and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.”
But more than anything, he emphasizes finding a deeper purpose.
“Have a strong reason why you’re doing it,” Mason says. “It becomes much easier to stay consistent and keep pushing forward even during the toughest moments.”
For Mason, that reason was waiting for him at home. The weight loss may be measured in pounds, but the example he’s setting for his son is the accomplishment he’s proudest of.
