The barbell bent-over row is a great exercise for building thickness and width in the back. IN fact, research shows that rows may be a better exercise for targeting the lats than pulldowns. That's why I always recommend doing a fair share of both rows and pulldowns in every back workout.

But for some people, the bent over row can place a lot of stress on the lower back. That can be counterproductive if you have lower back issues. If this is the case for you then let me recommend a new exercise that I call the supported bent over row.

Not only will this exercise remove stress from the lower back, but it can help you to place more focus on the lats.

So I recommend that everyone gives it a try.

Execution/ Description

To do the supported bent-over row set an incline bench so that the top of the bench is just below hip height. Grab a loaded barbell with an overhand grip and bend
